CASE STUDY
Assessing executive travel risks in Africa

Business executives travelling abroad are increasingly a target for political, extortion or terrorist activity. In 2002, an energy multinational asked Blue Sky to advise.

The company - a major oil and gas provider with interests all over the world* - asked Blue Sky to carry out a detailed risk assessment of several specific regions in Southern Africa. A large number of executives of the company needed to enter and travel within the area, and we were asked to create a security plan which would enable them to do so in safety.

The Blue Sky risk assessment covered in-depth research into the up-to-the-minute security situation within the country, backed by local reports from contacts, NGOs and other agencies on the ground. This enabled us to provide the client with a clear picture of the threats prevalent at that time - and a clear projection of the future potential.

The operational and logistical plan was then designed around delivery of a safe environment for a specified number of executives. The plan included low profile activities, supported by contacts identified in-country and delivery of complete teams as required via our Incert placement services.

The client was "delighted with the depth and analytical content" of the report - and subsequently decided to delay their prospective operations until the situation in-country had stabilised.

* For obvious reasons, Blue Sky does not normally name its clients, nor publish the details of individual projects and assignments. If you would like to discuss individual case experiences specifically, please contact us.
